Description

All first-person shooters that you have come across have made you shoot terrorists, soldiers, mutants, aliens and even fluffy bunnies. Shootmephrenica is here to put a stop to all that because in this experimental FPS you have to shoot yourself.

Self-elimination made difficult

In Shootmephrenica you are put face to face with several levels in which you have to use two panels that are capable of perfectly deflecting bullets, just like you see in cartoons, in order to shoot yourself.
You have a high calibre revolver with a laser pointer for assistance and an as many bullets as you need to get the job done. The world around is made up of floating platforms that give you straightforward clues as to what you have to do and there is no way out of there.
Each level puts you in a new situation where the panels are placed in different spots and relative positions to one another. You have to use both or just one of them to get the job done but it’s up to you to figure out how. Although the principle stays the same every time, scenarios change and what you did in the previous level might not really work in the current one.

Interesting mechanics to experiment and have fun with

Using the laser pointer with which the gun is fitted gives you a pretty decent idea of where the bullet will go. If you don’t get it right the first time, you have countless more chances to put a bullet through the ragdoll that is you in the game.
In Shootmephrenica, the bullet won’t travel with real-life speed, you do get to see it pass by as well as its trajectory, enabling you to notice where it goes wrong so you can aim better next time. The game also features a bullet-cam which allows you to see things from the travelling bullet’s perspective.
That can help you see by how much you need to correct an angle, or simply enjoy the sight of the bullet heading on the perfect path.

Unreal Engine put to good and creative use

To sum things up, Shootmephrenica is an interesting experiment that uses Unreal Engine 4 to deliver very nice visuals and enables fluent gameplay. It’s not the most challenging of games but you can certainly have fun with it.
Oh, one more thing, you don't always have to stand still to shoot yourself. Running into the bullet’s path is possible and actually more entertaining.
