Most laptops and notebooks are fitted with more and more powerful webcams to enhance interactions between individuals on social networks. However, you might simply want to take a picture, and there’s no default Windows tool to do that. Luckily, you can rely on third-party programs like CamCap.

No setup required to make it work

A cool thing about it is that it saves you the entire effort required to go through a setup process. This not only means you can check it out as soon as it’s downloaded, but also makes it possible to have it carried around on a thumb drive in case you want to use it on the go. Note, however, that .NET Framework is required to ensure functionality.
It’s recommended to make sure that your webcam is connected and functional before running the application. With the main window up, you can start the session to enable real-time preview, and there’s even a panel which enlists all connected webcams, if you happen to have more hooked up to your computer.

Good, but far from being a pro

Recording is the application’s core feature, but not for videos. Sadly, you only get to take pictures. What’s more, there are no built-in filters to use and enhance the visual style, nor the possibility to access the default webcam configuration panel to change color attributes.
Preview is offered in a large panel, and can be ceased at any given moment. There’s a capture button, but before you attempt to take another shot, you need to save the current one. There’s only one available format to save as, and the application doesn’t allow you to save pictures automatically.

Taking everything into consideration, we can state that CamCap is a rather poor webcam tool, even though it does what is expected. Pictures can’t be saved automatically, and it doesn’t offer any special filters to make your pictures personal.
