IRIS Description

Astronomy is a field of science where each day brings new discoveries, thanks to the ever-evolving technologies, such as powerful telescopes and space robots sent to analyze our Solar System and to discover new worlds. IRIS is a program designed to help you process astronomical images.
The software has a simple interface with a few buttons and an extensive list of editing tools.
The program can load a wide range of image formats, such as FIT, FTS, BMP, JPG, TIFF, PNG, PIC and RAW.
IRIS is optimized to handle images that come from CCD cameras. The app allows you to adjust a few camera settings. Thus, you can choose the CCD value, the RAW interpolation method, apply a white balance and pick one of the available camera models.
Among the included camera makers you can find Canon, Nikon, Minolta, Olympus, Pentax, Sony, Panasonic, Fuji, Sigma and Kodak. If the pictures were taken with any of these pictures, IRIS should be able to automatically correct any lighting and coloring problems.
The images can be edited by adding various filters, such as Gaussian, adaptive, blur, crisp, as well as unsharp masks. Furthermore, the tool enables you to register the names of stars and planets in the picture.
IRIS can also process 2D spectrums and create a fish eye effect on the pictures. Additional tools enable astronomy enthusiasts to evaluate the optical distortion from stellar images, measure the intensity of an element’s electromagnetic radiation and project stellar map, just to name a few. More operations are available in the on-line mode.
All in all, IRIS is a program that can be of great help to those who fell in love with astronomy. Inexperienced users might need some time to figure out all the app’s functions, due to their complexity.
