NextGen Media Player is a handy tool for the users who want to watch movies by using a simple interface. The goal of the program is to help you play multiple file formats without installing additional codecs on your system.
A multimedia player is an essential tool and it is often one of the first programs installed on any computer. However, some media players cannot open files without installing codecs which allow them to read the data saved in movie or music files.
This program aims to bypass this issue by including a set of codecs which enable it to open the most popular media files. The list of supported file types include AVI, MPEG, MOV and MKV files but also additional formats such as FLA, WRAP and M2V. Unfortunately, the NextGen Media Player is optimized for opening movie files since MP3 or WAV formats are not supported.
Unlike other video player that have grown more complex with each version, this application only includes the basic features. Its interface only allows you to select the video and watch it in the main window.
While some users might need additional features such as subtitle support or playback speed control, the casual users might be satisfied with this minimalist player that only allows you to create playlists which can be saved in a proprietary format.
In our tests, the application required insignificant resources and successfully played multiple files without any impact on the computer performance. During the installation you need to carefully select the you want to install as not all of them are required by the program.
Although NextGen Media Player is easy to use and provides smooth playback, its feature list seems too slim for most users.
