ScreenRes is a tiny software application that gives you the possibility to seamlessly change your monitor's resolution and save the icon positions on the desktop.
It doesn't integrate rich options or customization features, making it suitable for all types of users, whether they have previous experience with resolution modification tools or not.

Quick setup and simple GUI

Installing ScreenRes is a fast and easy task that shouldn't cause any trouble, thanks to the fact that it contains only familiar options. Once finished, you are greeted by a small window with a classical look that shows all main options available in this app.

Restore the monitor resolution and icons position

You can change the monitor's resolution by specifying a new width and height, and apply the new changes with one click. As previously mentioned, it's also possible to save the icon positions on the desktop, as well as to restore this setting to default.
As far as program settings are concerned, you can ask the tool to automatically set the resolution and restore the icons. Furthermore, you can create an icon in the system tray area for quickly accessing the program, or switch to a different UI language. There are no other notable options provided by this piece of software.

Evaluation and conclusion

Unsurprisingly, ScreenRes had minimal impact on the overall performance of the machine throughout our evaluation, thanks to the fact that it needed low CPU and RAM to function normally. No error dialogs popped up, and the utility didn't hang or crash.
All in all, ScreenRes provides a simple solution to modifying the monitor resolution and saving desktop icon positions. Too bad it doesn't implement an option for creating multiple profiles with ready settings.
