Ants is a neat little game that has you helping a colony of Ants to build the biggest castle before the other one does. It’s a card game in which you have to choose well whether you want to attack the other Ants, build a few more levels for your castle or stock up on supplies.

A casual game that’s easy to play and delightful

Ants is a fairly simple game in both design and gameplay. When it comes to visuals, the game won’t impress if you’re looking for something special but it does display a clean and clear design which makes gameplay easy to pick up.
The goal of the game is to build a 100 storey castle before the opposing colony does. Like most card games, each side takes place to make its move. Each round you and the opponent get to choose a card from eight that are displayed and depending on the card, you can perform an action. You are able to build your defenses, raise the castle or add more supplies to your stockpile which in turn allow you to perform a more costly or complex action in your next turn.

Despite its apparent simplicity, the game requires that you think things through

All the cards are randomly given to you throughout the game. Each turn you have to select a card and after you use it, it is replaced with another. The rest remain in your deck and this allows you to plan ahead.
The cards have different properties with different effects. Some allow you to attack and destroy some of the enemy castle, others create walls to protect yours. Each action you perform consumes a certain amount of resources such as builders, bricks, soldiers, weapons, crystals and magi, which in turn dictate what cards you can use.
So, while gameplay is easy to pick up, it’s wise you create a strategy and manage your resources the best you can.

A good casual game for a casual day

On a closing note, Ants is a simple yet fairly captivating game. It works on a simple principle and can get quite addictive if you don’t care much for graphics.
