Detonate 3

Detonate 3 is a game. It certainly is, and it’s one that would have been much better if was built for the first consoles. For a game released after 2002, it’s certainly underwhelming.

In Detonate 3 your job is to detonate rockets that are launched one after another in a random pattern. To detonate one, you need to activate a rectangle that appears above it right after liftoff. The shape is initially semi transparent and clicking it makes it opaque, which might be the reason why the rockets explode on impact.
Once a rocket blows up, it releases a large number of yellow stars that fly around like it’s the 4th of July. To make things even more trivial, they’re not even nice stars.

Basic gameplay that’s anything but exhilarating

Playing Detonate 3 is an example of a basic gaming experience. You just click and stuff happens. There isn’t even a trace of a storyline or concept behind it, there is no audio, and the graphics are very… plain.
On the plus side, it does take a good deal of focus and hand-eye coordination to get a good combo streak for extra points. If you activate the square before the rocket reaches it, it explodes on impact, if you activate it with the rocket inside, it deactivates and falls to the ground. I guess you can say that’s interesting.

Something to do if there’s nothing else to do

On a closing note, Detonate 3 is as basic as games come.It’s an arcade creation with very little to offer in all aspects, and some are entirely absent.
