Highway Racer

Highway Racer is an indie game in which the whole purpose is to speed on a highway, dodging incoming traffic and making it to the finish line in one peace. There are five levels to complete and each one unlocks a new car to drive.

The simplest of gameplay and graphics

Highway Racer displays rudimentary polygonal graphics that won’t really stand out in terms of quality. Visually, the game is not all that bad, sure it’s barely acceptable, but it won’t hurt your eyesight when you play it.
Controls come down to the use of the Left and Right arrow keys to steer and Spacebar to toggle slow motion. The latter slows things down considerably and allows you to avoid crashing when reflexes fail you.

A very basic game that still proves to be challenging

In Highway Racer, despite of the level you’re on, you do the same thing every time. You do your best to not total your car and reach the finish line. You drive only in a straight line and use the left and right controls to steer clear of the existing highway traffic. Each time you hit a car your vehicle’s durability decreases and when it hits 0, well you guessed it, you have to start all over again.
The only things that change in the game is the car you race in each level and the speed at which you drive. The difference in speed is noticeable and as you advance, it gets really tough not to crash. You can use the Slowmotion feature but it depletes relatively fast and charges very slowly, so you need to use it wisely.

Something to play if you’re bored and in need of a basic challenge

On a closing note, Highway Racer is a game that’s worth your time if you're looking for an arcade style game that barely even falls into that category. There’s no score involved and it doesn't even have at least a chiptunes soundtrack. It’s a game worth playing if you don’t have a better alternative.
