Sonic Heroes 2D

Platformers are the bread and butter of the gaming industry. Everyone has played this type of game at one point in their lives. These games are meant to be fun to play and provide a proper method of testing your reflexes. Sonic Heroes 2D is an enjoyable arcade game inspired by the Sonic series.

Go on an adventure with Sonic and his friends

In this game, players can take control of one of the three characters (Sonic, Knuckles and Tails) and complete various levels. An interesting feature is all heroes must be mastered to advance the game. This feature is not there to simply enrich the game, but it is designed to increase the level of difficulty.
The controls are responsive, allowing you to run, jump and execute power moves. Unfortunately, the trigger to change characters is sluggish. You cannot slide with a character and switch to another mid-air. By the time you do so and execute the moves, you will drop to the ground.

Travel at lightning speeds and gather rings

You cannot mention Sonic and his friends and not include speed. The game is fast paced, and it keeps you on the edge of your seat at all times. The game is fluid enough, and you can keep up with what is happening on screen. However, the graphics disappoint, with low resolution and pixelated textures.
A downside to this game is the lack of perspective. You cannot view the icons of all your heroes at the same time nor does it display all your characters. An interesting addition could be to allow other players to control another hero on the same screen or via LAN.

A fun but basic sidescroller

All in all, Sonic Heroes 2D is a beautiful arcade game that will keep you entertained. The multiple characters with their separate power moves will easily make you spend few hours with it. However, there are a couple of drawbacks that will tempt you to quit the game.
