Description

Star Miner is a 2D game in which you will have to pilot a small spacecraft and use it to harvest precious resources from asteroids that float through the vastness of space. The ship is fragile and taking care of it going to be a bit tougher than you would expect, take one hit and it’s game over.

Basic gameplay, graphics and everything else

Star Miner’s gameplay is rather rudimentary and delivery isn’t all that good either. It looks flat and having no audio doesn’t help at all. There is a handful of controls to use so that’s a plus but it counts for very little when the game is poor to begin with.
Controlling the ship is probably the only interesting and fairly complicated thing in the game. Flying through space the forces of friction do not apply so if you propel your ship in a direction, it will keep going until you change course or it hits something and blows up.
There are no reverse thrusters to use so you’ll have to rotate the craft and counter the forces that push it in a direction using your jets. It takes a bit to get used to but learning how to perfectly control the ship is kind of a nice challenge.

You can upgrade your ship to battle UFOs

Apart from comets and other large cosmic rocks that fly around, you will also have to look out for alien ships. They’re hostile, relentless and if you don’t have any weapons on you, you’re a sitting duck. The minerals you harvest can be converted into other resources and with them you can purchase different upgrades for your ship. Those will make it easier to survive and navigate.
Star Miner really doesn’t offer anything worth playing for, except for maybe the satisfaction of playing an indie game. There are no quests, no missions, you just fly around gathering stuff.

A decent game if there isn’t anything else you can play

On a closing note, Star Miner lacks charm, of any kind. It’s playable but it’s barely appealing and it offers very little to keep you interested.
