The Long Way

The Long Way is a narrative driven game that has you hitchhiking across a desert road at dusk. You’ll occasionally be picked up by strangers who feel the need for some chit chat, but you have to be very careful because what you say will either lead to your destination or death, which might be the same thing at the end.

Talk your way out of murder and into UFOs, ancient gods and conspiracy theories

The Long Way is a game in which you will encounter multiple layers of strange. You start the game alone on a desert road and start wandering along in a direction. Soon after cars start passing by you and you instinctively raise your hand to signal them in case someone can help you out with a ride to or at least close to your destination.
After a while, a car will eventually pull over and you get in. What happens next is the brilliance that is The Long Way. Each driver that stops will initiate conversation in their own way, customary to their apparent personality. You will have to ask questions or answer some the way you see fit but tread lightly, some topics have unforeseen consequences.
One driver might joke around the entire way and drop you off with the idea that he or she just made a new friend, while some might get offended by your choices of conversation topics or answers. The latter will result in one of two endings, either you get off, or your head get’s cut off.

A game that’s very complex despite it’s simple appearance

The Long Way might not have AAA graphics, but it still looks great. For a game in which the action takes place at dusk, color selection couldn’t have been better. The color tones and ambiance set by the soundtrack really grab and pull into the game.
It’s also very important to note that the game was built during a two day game jam and for that time period, the team behind it managed to pull off a great job. It’s very well written, and if you’re the kind who likes a good narrative, this one will get to you.
The Long Way doesn’t come with a mind blowing plot but delivery is excellent and it makes all the difference.

It makes your acquaintance with the deceitful nature of the human mind

You will fail a lot in The Long Way but that won’t stop you from getting to the bottom of it all. Throughout each conversation, there will be several moments that will spark curiosity in you about what’s actually going on.
