Description

Rollercoasters were not very exciting on computer until recently, unless you were allowed to build them from scratch and create your own rides. Other than that, there’s not a lot of excitement involved in the genre. However, the virtual reality revolution changed all that, because you can now experience the thrill of a ride as if you were truly strapped to the chair.

Explore a living room from the perspective of a tiny person

UE4 Rollercoaster is a game designed for Oculus Rift in which you get to hitch a ride on quite a wild rollercoaster. Unlike most simulators out there, on the other hand, this one does not take place in an amusement park somewhere. Instead, the whole track is fitted into a living room, and you have been shrunk down to a tiny blob in order to fit into the chair.
The layout of the track gets you to every corner of the room, and there are plenty of household objects that pose as support beams for the rail. Whether you are suspended by a coffee mug, a stack of books or a door knob, the experience is that much more exciting and somehow realistic. Granted, there are still some problems with the physics, but the simulation should be convincing enough in the end.

Great graphics and level design

As you might expect, the graphics are sublime, thanks to the power of Unreal Engine 4. However, it’s not just about the great shading and the high-resolution textures, because that’s not enough to make something nice. The level design is quite impressive as well, because the living room in question truly looks like something you could live in, at least if you were made of money.
On the other hand, it must be mentioned that quite a few assets used by the developer are actually included with the UE4 development kit, so it’s not all his work. Still, there’s quite a bit of original content as well, and it doesn’t matter all that much when you are holding on for dear life anyway.

A thrilling experience for Oculus Rift owners

All things considered, UE4 Rollercoaster is definitely a great experience, especially if you can run it at maximum quality and without any frame drops. In addition, it’s also quite different from most other rollercoaster sims out there.
