AbsoluteShield File Shredder Description
AbsoluteShield File Shredder is a straightforward application you can use to securely and permanently remove files and folders from the computer, in order to prevent third parties from retrieving your personal data using specialized software. It supports two shredding algorithms and batch mode.
Simple setup and GUI
Setting it up takes minimal time and effort. The user-friendly interface is represented by a standard window with a plain look and neatly organized structure, where you can resort to the file browser to locate files and add them to the task list, along with folders to delete all containing files.
As previously mentioned, batch processing is possible, so you can shred as many items as you want at a time, after analyzing their full paths, sizes and types (files or folders).
Quick and standard shredder
Before doing so, you can select the wiping mode between quick (two passes) and standard (seven passes). The difference between the two is that the first one is fast but less secure, while the second takes a longer time but enhances protection against recovery software.
On task completion, AbsoluteShield File Shredder shows a message dialog which informs you if the job was successful and displays the number of deleted files.
Apart from the fact that you can stop an ongoing operation if it takes too long, as well as remove any item's entry from the list if you change your mind, there are no other notable options available. Help documentation is included and has a tutorial.
Evaluation and conclusion
Although the software product hasn't received updates for a long time, we haven't come across any compatibility issues on newer Windows editions in our tests. It carried out file shredding jobs in reasonable time while remaining light on system resources consumption. Thanks to its advanced, yet approachable options, AbsoluteShield File Shredder can be used by anyone with ease.
