Active Directory User Lookup Description
Active Directory User Lookup is a straightforward application you can use to rapidly identify users in your network by browsing the Active Directory. It shows the IP address and host name associated with the computer where a specific user is logged on.
Don't rush through the wizard
Installing this program doesn't take long. However, because Active Directory User Lookup is ad-supported, it offers to set up an additional program on your computer as well as to modify some of your web browser settings.
This isn't required for the utility to work properly so, unless you want to make this happen, make sure to clear the box with the offer before proceeding to the next wizard step. This way, you will perform a clean setup.
On the other hand, you should make sure to have an Active Directory server installed to be able to work with this program, as well as to run AD User Lookup with administrative rights.
Enter your domain name and a user's name to search
The main app window has a simple look and layout, showing all available settings in plain sight. All you have to do is enter the domain credentials, namely the domain name and user name you want to look up, then click the Find button to begin the search. Results will show the local IP address along with the host name of the respective PC.
In order for this to work, your own PC as well as the one you're looking for must belong to a specific domain. To find out which domain you belong to, right-click My Computer (or This PC in File Explorer in Windows 10) and find the Domain area. If you have Workgroup listed instead of Domain, it means that you're not registered to any domain, so it's not possible to use this tool.
Simple tool for browsing Active Directory
All things considered, Active Directory User Lookup delivers a fast and straightforward solution for helping you find out the local IP address and host name of a user's computer that's in the same domain as you. However, it's not explicit concerning the way it works.
