Alternate FTP

FTP servers are widely employed today, as they allow multiple users to connect and download data in a secure environment, for all the parties involved. As such, many programs have been developed to allow one to better manage the connection to the server and Alternate FTP is one such application.

Upload or download files to and from FTP servers

With it, one can perform all the standard FTP operations, such as uploading or downloading content, as well as renaming and deleting files – if supported by the server. The program features a highly intuitive multi-frame setup, in which all files are displayed in a tree-view control for ease of access.
Users can connect to a server by specifying the IP address, or, alternatively, its full name; one can also define the port to be used and credentials can be inserted, if required by the FTP connection. Once connected to a valid item, users can browse the data listing as they would with any files explorer and the application automatically displays the name, type and size of the document under corresponding column headers.

All the standard operations are available, including options to download and upload files, as well as to rename or delete items. Creating new folders is allowed by the tool, although all operations that can change the stored data require adequate permissions from the target server.
A notable feature is the ability to create profiles that store all the connection data, thus eliminating the need to insert server addresses and credentials manually, upon each launch of the program. Logs are also kept of all operations and global or local refresh commands can be issued.
