How does malware infect systems through autorun? Windows provides a function to automatically run the program described in the "Autorun.inf" file if it exists in the root directory of the USB thumb drive. Recently, there have been rising cases of malware being automatically executed and infecting the PC, using this autorun function. Infected malware in the PC resides in the Windows system. Then, when a clean USB thumb drive is inserted, it spreads itself by making a copy of itself in the USB thumb drive and infecting other systems as well.
