AnyConverter

AnyConverter is a straightforward and speedy software application designed to transform files into a wide range of formats when it comes to the audio, video, image and text categories, among others. It offers support for MP3, WMA, WAV, MP4, WMV, AVI, JPG, GIF, PNG, ICO, TXT, HTML, BIN, INI, 3DS, ISO and ROM, to name a few examples.

Hassle-free installation and simple interface

Installing this utility is a fast job that requires minimal user intervention. As far as the interface goes, AnyConverter adopts a small window with a plain and simple appearance that provides direct access to all available options. Although the UI looks rudimentary, it's very simple to figure out, even by users with little or no previous experience in file type conversion software.

Select the source file and target file type

It instructs you to get started by selecting the source file which you want to convert, using the traditional file browser. After picking the target file type, all you have to do is click a button to initialize the conversion operation. In our tests we have noticed that AnyConverter wasn't able to immediately start a new conversion job after the first one, forcing us to restart the program.

Evaluation and conclusion

Unfortunately, batch processing is not supported, so you are restricted to converting only one file at a time. On top of that, the tool doesn't integrate an option for specifying the output directory and file name. The new files are automatically created in the same location as their counterparts and are given the same names. If there are already files with the same name, the utility overwrites them.
Conversion tasks were carried out swiftly in our evaluation, during which AnyConverter remained light on system resources consumption. In some cases it delivered quality results. However, it prompted error dialogs and crashed several times right after finishing the conversion job. We must also keep in mind that it hasn't been updated for a very long time and likely has compatibility issues with newer Windows editions.
