Apophysis

Apophysis is an open-source Windows graphic utility whose purpose is to help you design and render fractal flames. It comes packed with a built-in fractal editor which empowers you to adjust the dedicated parameters in detail.

Well-structured layout

The tool reveals a clean design that shows a list with 100 random fractal flames. You may preview the fractals directly in the main window, run the animation in a dedicated panel, delete or rename the preset fractals, and activate a full screen mode.
In addition, you are allowed to import/export data from FLAME, FLA, APO, or IFS file format. A help manual is included in the package and provides information about the configuration settings in case you do not manage to set up the process on your own.

Flame designer

The application is able to create and load a file that contains random flame parameters. The flame editor offers support for fine-tuning functions that allow you to make changes to triangles, variations, and colors. You can make use of drag-and-drop actions for moving objects in the editor and preview the results in real time in a special panel.
Furthermore, you are allowed to adjust the gamma, brightness, and vibrancy, set the background color, as well as configure the zoom level and x/y coordinates of the camera.
You may also choose between several flame mutation types (e.g. Diamond, Julia, Waves, Fisheye, Popcorn), select the preferred color gradient, and pick from several preset flame variations, such as Linear, Spherical, Polar, and Sinusoidal.
Plus, you can export the fractals to UPR file format or JPG, PPM, or PNG image format. The fractal photos can be resized, and you may carry out tweaks related to the aspect ratio and rendering mode.

Tests have pointed out that Apophysis reveals very good output results and renders data quickly. However, it is not quite friendly with system resources so the overall performance of the computer may be affected.
