AS-ASCII Text Description
Art is just about anything which appeals the the large majority of the public, and can come under digital forms as well. One which directly derived from programming is ASCII art, and transforms text or images into the same product, but built with characters. In this regard, AS-ASCII Text comes with the means to perform quick conversion of text to ASCII.
Can be used on the go
You can go ahead and run the application right after setup is done, because it skips you the effort of going through a setup process, allowing you to carry it on a thumb drive to use on other computers as well. Additionally, registries are kept intact, so you don’t have to worry about damaging the target PC.
Little time, and effort are required from start to end. A text input field needs to be filled in with the string you want to convert into ASCII, with the preview are refreshing in real time. You can also edit write inside the preview area when you’re done, if you consider more tweaks make the result even more appealing.
Good, but far from being a pro
By default, the application is only set to use one character to draw characters of the input text. However, a second character can be used to fill in the rest of the space. With the right imagination, results can differ considerably even for the same input text. Moreover, you can select output format for even greater variety.
Unfortunately, the application restricts you from working with anything else. In other words, you aren’t able to load text from an existing file, nor save the generated result. The only way to save a project is by copying it in a separate document. Sadly, input can only be on a single line, and unless the output space is pretty wide, there’s little to no use for the result.
In conclusion
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that AS-ASCII Text comes with good intentions, and can generate a pretty decent variety of styles, especially because of the options to select a different output font, and to use two characters to build ASCII art. Sadly, the lack of export options, and one row limitation have a considerable impact on overall practicality.
