Audio Test File Generator Description
Audio Test File Generator is a lightweight and portable application that gives you the possibility to generate RIFF Wave format files with sweeps, along with pink and white noise.
Portability advantages
Since there's no installation involved, you can drop the downloaded .exe file to a custom location on the disk or place it on a USB flash drive, in order to seamlessly run the tool on any computer with minimum effort and no previous setup. It doesn't add new entries to the Windows registry, need DLLs to run, or create files on the disk without permission.
Simple interface and options
It's packed in a user-friendly interface, consisting of a standard window with a simple design and layout, which shows all options provided by the program.
It's possible to select a musical note, sample rate, duration (seconds), attenuation (dBs) and sample bit width to generate the sine wave, create pink or white noise, as well as specify the beginning and end frequency to generate the sweep wave.
The audio signal is automatically created in a predefined directory. However, you can change the folder path and file name of the Wave track. There are no other notable options provided by Audio Test File Generator.
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that the software program didn't freeze, crash or indicate error messages. It left a small footprint on system resources, since it required a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. Although it hasn't received updates for a long time, it ran on newer Windows models.
All in all, Audio Test File Generator offers a straightforward solution for creating sine waves, and it can be easily configured. Plus, it's free for non-commercial use.
