AVI2VCD Description

AVI2VCD brings a video converting toolbox to the table, packing the capabilities of turning your AVI video files into Video CD-ready format in order to be played back on VCD players. For those of you wondering what is the VCD, this format is the predecessor of the DVD in terms of playing videos from a specialized player on the TV.
Although the VCD format is a thing of the past now for the majority of the world’s population, if you ever find yourself in the situation of really needing an application to help you with this particular task, then AVI2VCD can be what you are looking for.
The Video CD was, in fact, the first format to distribute films on standard optical compact discs. Built by the industry moguls Sony, Philips, Matsushita and JVC, the VCD standard was released back in 1993 and for a short period of time (almost 2 years) was the only one on the market.
AVI2VCD does exactly what its title says. It takes your AVI video files (one by one and never in batches) and encodes them to MPEG, VCD-compatible format. All you have to do is load your AVI file and the program automatically stores the output file in the same directory. In order to change the destination folder, you must manually edit the path as the application does not present a dedicated button for this specific task.
You can also choose to split the target MPEG at 700 MB which is recommended for most of CDs these days. Just make sure you do not forget to change this setting to 650, 870 MB or even 10, 65, 185 or 210 MB for special discs such as the mini-CD or the business card CD. The format target can be changed between Film, PAL or NTSC.
All in all, AVI2VCD is not the best product on the market for the job it is intended to accomplish, but its glory days, when it was some of the best amongst its competitors, have put a mark on it. You must know that AVI2VCD is not fast at all when it comes to encoding times, as it almost takes the entire length of the movie to complete the process. While it was something to brag about in the past, AVI2VCD is now nothing but a program you might use once a year or just once.
