AviMerin

AviMerin is a tool developed to help you combine two or more AVI clips into a single file. The program comes packed with the necessary and suffice features for carrying out this task, making it accessible not only to experienced users, but also to beginners.
It offers support for up to 100 videos and requires you to separately install the DivX codec. Videos are converted from MotionJpeg (mjpg) to DivX, Xvid and Mpeg4. Meanwhile, uncompressed audio is converted to MP3 format. Two sound tracks are supported.

Compatibility issues with newer Windows

Before proceeding any further, you should know that the software product hasn't been updated for such a long time, that it doesn't run on Windows versions past Vista, although it gets successfully installed.

The setup operation takes minimal time and effort, since there are only familiar options displayed in the wizard steps. As far as the interface is concerned, AviMerin adopts a user-friendly window that gives you an overview of all options.

It's possible to add two or more AVI clips to the task list with the help of the file browser, preview their thumbnails and full paths, as well as indicate the saving directory and filename to save the merged video to.
Plus, you can remove any entry from the list if you change your mind. Apart from the fact that the top bar shows the audio and video properties of the clips, there are no other notable settings available.

Evaluation and conclusion

It didn't put a strain on the overall performance of the machine in our tests, thanks to the fact that it needed a low amount of CPU and memory to function normally. Videos were merged rapidly. Too bad that AviMerin hasn't been updated for a long time. Otherwise, it can be handled with ease by all user levels.
