AW Evidence - Area Magnifier and Recorder is an accessible tool that enables you to record activity from your desktop. With it you can record video and capture screens in image format.
It displays a comprehensive interface that makes it easy-to-use by anyone. The application is designed to capture just the content that is found inside a selection and you get to make that selection. This is both a good and a bad thing at the same time.
The good is in the fact that you have total freedom over the area you want to record. It can be a small window or the entire screen. It doesn’t matter as the application is capable of recording any size. A good use for this selection feature is that you can use it as a magnifier. To do so, you just need to make sure that the main window is larger than the selection you make because the feed from the selection is fitted to match the preview area of the application.
The bad comes from the lack of aspect ratio control. When creating a selection that does not have the same proportions as the application’s preview screen, the feed that comes from the selection is stretched to fit the shape of the application’s preview section. And that can lead to a bad quality recording. Although, since the application is so easy to use, that’s a problem you can overcome with practice.
AW Evidence - Area Magnifier and Recorder allows you to set the primary download folder for the recordings and screen captures. This is mainly for sorting and ease of access rather than avoiding to fill your hard drive. By default, the application is set to record a maximum of 100MB and allows you to change that value. You also get to set a time limit for the recordings along with the options to set the frame rate, video quality and select the audio device.
All in all, AW Evidence - Area Magnifier and Recorder is a practical tool for desktop video recordings but it does take a little practice with it to obtain a quality video.
