BarRax Decryptor Description

Security companies report that ransomware attacks are more and more frequent. Released in February, 2017 as a modified version of the HiddenTear/EDA2 project, the BarRax ransomware can encrypt hundreds of files on the infected computer, asking for a ransom in exchange for the decryption key. An alternative to paying the ransom is to try out the BarRax Decryptor, an application signed by Check Point Software that tries to erase traces of the BarRax ransomware and help you regain access to your files.

What is the BarRax ransomware and how it acts

BarRax can reach your system if you install random toolbars and applications, download torrent files, click on ads or open attachments in fake emails.
It targets a wide variety of files, appending ".BarRax" to their extension. It uses RSA-2048 bit public-key cryptography or the AES algorithm to lock files, and affects the system's registry so as to be able to start with Windows and disable the Automatic Repair feature. Additionally, it might delete previously created restore points to make it impossible for you to retrieve data without paying the ransom.
But that is not all. Aside from encrypting files, BarRax is capable of collecting valuable information about the computer and the user and send it to a remote server, which can generate important vulnerabilities and further malware infections.

A post-infection solution to remove the BarRax ransomware

The BarRax Decryptor is meant to find the encryption key that the BarRax ransomware used to lock your files and help you regain access to your data.
It only runs in the command console so no options and no user interface is available. In other words, you just have to start it and the decryption process is initiated. You just have to wait for the decryptor to analyze your system and attempt to retrieve the key you need to unlock files. If the operation is successful, a message is displayed in the console and you should be able to open your files.

A console-based decryptor that tries to unlock your files

Ransomware is one of most nasty malware categories, posing a real threat to any computer user. Not only that it restricts access to files, but it also collects private information that can lead to further malicious actions. To get rid of BarRax and any other ransomware infection, nothing is too little. As a consequence, BarRax Decryptor is worth a try, even though the decryption process might fail without an obvious reason.
