Installer, requirements, and interface

Setting up this app takes minimal time and effort, and the only notable aspect about it is that you must have .NET Framework installed. As far as the interface is concerned, Basic Word Processor opts for a normal window that doesn't put emphasis on graphical elements, yet it's easy to navigate.

Open, edit and save plain text documents

Existing text documents can be opened by resorting to the file browser. It's possible to edit text, cut, copy, paste and select all text, undo and redo your actions, as well as check out the current day and date in the status bar. This can be changed in something else by consulting the integrated calendar.
Hyperlinks are detected by the tool but they aren't launched in the web browser on click. You can customize the color of the border surrounding the text document, print information, as well as save progress to file by specifying not only the output directory and file name, but also the file extension. Keyboard shortcuts are supported.

Evaluation and conclusion

The software utility didn't put a strain on the computer's performance in our tests, as it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly. No error dialogs popped up and it didn't hang or crash. However, the project remained in beta stage and doesn't seem to be in development anymore.
It contains a very poor set of options and customization settings dedicated to editing text. The options panel hasn't even been integrated, while the TXT format is not recognized by Basic Word Processor when opening or saving files.
