CaSIR Description
CaSIR is a tiny and portable application that scans your computer for common malicious agents and attempts to remove them. Targets include viruses, worms and Trojans, among others.
Since installation is not a prerequisite, you can extract the program files to any location on the hard disk and click it to run.
It is also possible to save CaSIR to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any machine with minimum effort.
An important aspect to take into account is that the Windows registry does not receive new entries, and additional files are not saved to the HDD, leaving it clean after removal.
The interface is made from a regular window with a plain and simple layout. The scanning and removal procedure is automatic, so user assistance is not necessary.
In addition, you can view a list of active targets. Keeping the definitions up to date is essential, so make sure to perform regular updates.
The application does not put a strain on system resources, since it runs on a very low amount of CPU and RAM. It has a good response time and carries out a scan job rapidly. No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the app did not hang or crash. We have not come across any issues.
Unfortunately, the virus definitions database has not been updated for a while. Other than that, CaSIR can be handled by all types of users, even novices.
