CD-Intro Description
Modern multimedia disks are equipped with menus and autorun functions for a proper first impression. There are various applications you can use to manually create menus for custom content, which is also the case with CD-Intro. However, you are not limited to CDs, with the possibility to add your creation on most removable drives and disk types.
Something different than what you'd expect
Confusion is the first to get installed, with the application folder only containing a few files, amongst which you find a custom AUTORUN.INF file, as well as an executable that doesn't seem to do anything. This is because there's no actual interface and all adjustments need to be manually written down.
Time-consuming documentation required
This means that you need to spend some time with what values an autorun file is capable of processing, in case you don't already posses this knowledge. This creation method cuts out most of the app's practicality, which doesn't even contain any type of documentation.
Sure, the autorun file is fitted with a handful of predefined fields next to which you only need to write corresponding values, such as the application's target path, images you want to include, buttons, sound and more, but again, you need to know exactly what you're doing.
Far from being a pro
To test out values, you can run the executable file found besides the autorun file. Don't expect any hints in case you didn't write down values properly, so it either works or not. This counts as the biggest disappointment and it would have been useful to see at least an example file to work on.
To sum it up
All things considered, we come to the conclusion that CD-Intro feels like a project started from a neat idea, but somehow abandoned along the way. The lack of documentation surely makes you look away, with a lot of time needed to get familiar with what text strings you can use. Practicality is highly questionable and if you want to create menus or autorun files easier it's best to look for alternatives.
