CD Scroll Description
Browsing the content of a CD or DVD filled with a large variety of applications in order to find the one you need can be a pain. Luckily, with the help of specialized applications such as CD Scroll you can easily create a menu for your disks so content is found fast and setup completed in the blink of an eye.
Comes in a lightweight package
The application comes bundled with several files you need to take care of in order for it to successfully deploy its features. The main window is only a skeleton for several commands you need to input in a configuration file. Don't be fooled, because commands are merely names of the files needed to display either a picture or launch a specific installer.
Quick and easy creation process
Your new menu is simple enough, with a side panel displaying available entries, while the rest of the space showing a screenshot, details, as well as the “Install†button. Over two hundred entries can be created, each with its own screenshot and details.
All effort in making this possible is editing a text file bundled with the downloaded package. You can also provide pictures of popular formats, but crop them before, because the application does not have any editing tools implemented.
Good but far from being a pro
Unfortunately, the application comes with a major drawback. You can only provide some specific types of EXE installers, otherwise the setup file does not run and triggers an error. This is a shame, since there are various setup types, each developer wanting to deliver a customized product.
On the other hand, the application gives you the possibility to create a menu in a jiffy. The included help manual is more than enough to get you up and running. What's more, you can apply this kind of menus even to removable storage devices, with no sophisticated commands that alter setup files.
To end with
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that CD Scroll is a neat application, managing to live up to its potential. It's not the best of its kind, missing out on a lot of advanced features and compatibility with various setup formats being a major disappointment, but for a quick creation of a menu it properly gets the job done.
