Cheese Description
It is often necessary to capture images of your desktop, but it is difficult to find the right tool for the job, as many of the applications designed for this purpose are rather complex, which makes them less accessible to novices.
Cheese is a lightweight program designed to help you take screenshots, and it is, for the most part, fairly easy to use. It does not offer a lot of features, however, and it has a very outdated interface.
Straightforward screen capture utility that offers a limited array of features
Cheese is minimized to the system tray upon launch, and you can either click the application’s icon or press the PrtScn key to bring up the selection box. Once that is done, you can define the area you wish to capture and save the image as a JPG, PNG or BMP file.
Sadly, you cannot capture a specific application, window or object, and the default shortcut cannot be modified. Also, while you can choose from a list of preset sizes for the selection area, you cannot save its current dimensions.
However, it is possible to take multiple snapshots in a row, something that many other similar applications do not allow you to do. You just need to define the FPS and image count, and then let the program do its thing.
Features a very outdated user interface
This utility was created using Adobe Director, an authoring platform that has not seen much use in recent times, but is still relied upon by certain developers to create simple applications.
Sadly, Cheese is rather disappointing in terms of visuals, as its interface is very outdated and is not likely to impress most users.
Simplistic screen capture tool that has its uses, but lacks important features
All in all, Cheese is not the most complex application out there, and its interface is far from impressive, but it is relatively easy to use and supports multiple output formats. It needs to be improved in certain respects, but those who only need a simple, no-nonsense screenshot utility should find it to be suitable for the job at hand.
