Cineplay Description
Cineplay is an open-source media player built especially for video playback. It doesn't need any special codecs. Plus, the utility can play media files either from your own computer or URLs with a simple drag-and-drop functionality.
Compact design
The program doesn't come with a large amount of features. Having a small graphical user interface, this media player offers just the basic playback controls and a handful of buttons in the top bar where the user can select the source files he wants to play.
In case he plans to add multiple videos or songs, a playlist panel is made available on the right side of the main window.
Support for lots of video formats
Powered by an open-source database, OpenLibraries, Cineplay is not bound by file format limitations. It supports all types of video formats, including Divx and Flash videos, and it even has FFMPEG support.
Users can select online videos as well by typing the URL of the target clip, and Cineplay will fetch it to have it streamed on your computer. In case the window’s size is too small, users can choose a more appropriate display. They can also enable a full screen mode.
Users can pick favorite songs or movies and check out info about them in case they are curious about their exact size and video format. However, there are no video speed, pitch, or delay options. Video resolution or screen aspect cannot be changed, and lastly there is no support for subtitles.
Final opinions
For a simple and open-source application, Cineplay does exactly what it claims to do. It can play movies in any format available and that’s about it. You won’t be able to load subtitles or do any other changes to your media files, so it keeps your options limited, except some video or music playback.
Playing URL files could constitute an advantage for some, but it might not be enough for others that expect a little bit more from their movie players.
