Cookie Shield

Cookie Shield is a new app that will help you manage your online privacy by allowing you to define a list of trusted websites whose cookies you wish to keep. Cookies from all other websites will automatically be removed after your browsing session. Even though most cookies are harmless, there are some types of cookies on your computer that can be used to track your browsing activity, monitor your online behavior, and store information about you. Examples of cookies you might want to remove include third-party cookies which can be placed by advertisers to track your online activity. These types of cookies are most associated with tracking or other privacy violations and are typically not useful to you during your browsing experience.

How do I create my Trusted list? During the initial setup, the app will suggest a Trusted list of websites based on your bookmarks or list of favorites. Once you start using the app, Cookie Shield will occasionally ask you if you wish to trust sites that you visit frequently. You can also add a new website to your Trusted list at any time by simply typing in the URL. How will Cookie Shield protect my computer? Cookie Shield runs silently in the background during your browsing sessions. At the end of each browsing session, the app will remove all cookies that are not on your Trusted list. This includes Flash, Silverlight and other types of cookies. Cookie Shield will also protect you from potentially malicious cookies by blocking all third-party cookies. This will be accomplished by updating your browser settings to block third-party cookies. Cookie Shield allows users to receive session cookies which are required for many websites but it removes these at the end of each browsing session. Community Ratings: The Cookie Shield Community Ratings are designed to assist you in determining whether or not to add a particular website to your Trusted list. They originate from the Cookie Shield user base and are the percentage of the Cookie Shield community that has trusted a particular website. The Cookie Shield Community Ratings give you a second opinion to trust a website. Consider it like getting input from friends before making a decision. Cookie Shield is compatible with Internet Explorer, Firefox and Chrome browsers.
