CT RegKey Backup

CT RegKey Backup creates Windows registry backups with keys and subkeys. This is an intuitive software application that provides quick access to the Registry Editor. It doesn't contain complicated options or configuration settings, making it accessible to all types of users.

Old app with a simple interface

Before proceeding any further, you should know that CT RegKey Backup hasn't been updated for a very long time and, although it still runs on newer Windows editions, it has compatibility issues which stop it from creating backups.
After a fast setup operation that shouldn't give you any trouble, you're welcomed by a standard window split into two panes, for exploring the registry tree and for restoring backups, respectively.

Backup and restore registry keys

CT RegKey Backup loads all registry hives automatically at startup and lets you navigate their keys, in order to select one to backup. You can create as many backups as you want and easily restore them.
It's also possible to delete backups, refresh the information displayed, launch Registry Editor, as well as to create a drop-down list with favorite registry keys for quick access. There are no other notable options available.

Evaluation and conclusion

There were no stability issues on Windows XP in our tests, thanks to the fact that the software utility didn't hang, crash or prompt error messages. As we expected, it carried out backup and restoration jobs swiftly while remaining light on system resources.
On the other hand, it hasn't been updated for a very long time and doesn't work properly on newer Windows. Although it doesn't come equipped with richer options, such as a search function for rapidly finding specific keys, CT RegKey Backup offers a simple solution for creating and restoring registry backups, and it can be handled by anyone.
