CTSCameraDetector Description

You most likely noticed all those cameras both inside and outside major stores, or even a local one. This is a common security measure of the modern world, with little time spent on camera setup and later intervention. Surveillance can also be done via a webcam, and applications like CTSCameraDetector even provide a few extra options.

Pay attention to the installation process

The application takes little time to get installed, but you need to pay attention to every Next button you press or terms you agree to, because you risk ending up with other programs installed as well. In addition, you need to make sure .NET Framework is part of your computer, but latest Windows iterations come with the feature in the default set. A webcam also needs to be connected.
On the visual side of things, the first impression manages to get your attention, with all features wrapped in a custom-made window. Most of the space is used to provide webcam feedback, with several controls in a separate area. However, the process doesn’t start until you take the time to set up all parameters.

Poor implementation of features

As such, you need to tell the application what to do when motion is detected. In other words, you can punch in your email address and credentials to receive notifications and snapshots when something’s moving in front of the camera. Another option is to have files saved to a custom location, but for whatever reason, you can only pick Documents folders, unless pasting the whole address in the target field.
Configuring notifications still doesn’t put the process in motion. The camera needs to be selected from a drop-down menu, after which you need to press Start. There’s also a motion detection threshold slider which refers to detection sensitivity.
Unfortunately, many errors occurred during our tests, and although real-time feedback is provided, no pictures were taken, regardless of the intensity and diversity of motion. What’s more, changing options and parameters while the process is in motion requires an application restart for further functionality.

On an ending note

Taking everything into consideration, we can safely state that you can’t actually rely on CTSCameraDetector for home security, let alone an organized environment. Although it looks clean and is able to provide camera feedback, poor implementation of features can trigger various errors and render the application unusable. Best advice would be to look for alternatives or pay extra attention to what’s going on.
