Desk Drive (formerly BOS Desk Drive) Description

BOS Desk Drive is a lightweight software application whose purpose is to help you automatically create desktop shortcuts whenever you need to plug your USB flash drive into your computer, so it won’t be necessary to manually open Windows Explorer in order to locate the mapped drive or folder.

Look for the utility in the system tray

You can find BOS Desk Drive running in the background, more specifically in your system tray area.
It doesn’t come packed with a help manual but the configuration settings look intuitive so you are not going to spend a lot of time tweaking the entire process. In order to access the program’s dedicated parameters, you need to perform a right-click on its icon.

Configuration settings

BOS Desk Drive is able to automatically create shortcuts on your desktop each time it detects several types of devices, such CD-ROM, removable, fixed, networked or RAM. You can enable or disable the process for each device type.
What’s more, you can exclude certain devices by specifying the corresponding drive letters, hide the tray icon, run the utility at Windows startup, remember the icon position, as well as open Windows Explorer.
When you double-click on the newly created icon on the screen, the application automatically opens up the content of the drive via Windows Explorer. If you remove the media from the computer, the shortcut automatically goes away.
Tests have shown that BOS Desk Drive carries out a task very quickly and without errors. It doesn’t eat up a lot of CPU and memory so the overall performance of the system is not hampered.

Bottom line

All things considered, BOS Desk Drive delivers a simple and efficient solution for managing the content stored on USB flash drives or other devices, and can be handled by beginners and professionals alike.
