DeskReplacer Description
DeskReplacer is an easy-to-use application that enables you to create a list with multiple images to automatically rotate as the desktop wallpaper. It offers support for JPEG, JPEG, GIF and BMP file types.
Setup, requirements, and interface
Installing it is an easy task that shouldn't give you any trouble. However, you should be aware that it was developed with .NET Framework, so you must have this platform installed to be able to get it up and running.
As far as the interface is concerned, DeskReplacer creates an icon in the systray at startup and gets minimized there. This way, it remembers your settings and auto-rotates the desktop wallpaper while giving you space to carry on with your typical PC activity.
Add photographs and set the rotation period
The list of images can be populated with as many files as you want, whether the photos originate from local, network or removable drives. They are loaded in the order displayed, which can be shuffled.
As far as application settings go, it's possible to change the default rotation interval from 1 minute to any number of minutes, seconds or hours. In addition, you can hide the tray icon or integrate the app into the Windows autostart sequence, so it starts by default every time you turn on your computer.
Evaluation and conclusion
Although DeskReplacer hasn't been updated for a long time, it didn't have any compatibility issues with newer Windows models in our tests. CPU and RAM usage was minimal, unsurprisingly, so it didn't hamper the machine's performance or affect other running programs.
The tool is useful for older Windows versions which have yet to integrate the desktop auto-rotate feature. It's straightforward and simple to use. On the other hand, it doesn't have more advanced customization properties for users looking for more control.
