Desktop Tray Launcher Description
Keeping your desktop a clean place can be as much of a pain as having to do so with your room. Even though keeping shortcuts on your desktop makes it easier to access desired items, sooner or later it gets filled even with unused items. Luckily, applications like Desktop Tray Launcher offer an alternative to conventional methods of keeping shortcuts around.
Lightweight and easy to use
Since it's not dedicated to a specific configuration and equipped with only necessary features, it's natural that it comes in a small package. It uses considerably little of your system's resources while only takes up about 500 Kb of space on your hard disk drive and no space at all on your desktop.
Right from the start, you are informed of the application's location, since it lacks a main window. Hitting the icon found in the system tray brings up a menu that is fitted with icons found on your desktop.
Good but far from being a pro
Unfortunately, this is as far as functionality stretches. Accessing the options menu only lets you set icon size and a couple of technical options, like running at startup or check for newer versions.
The only situation in which it proves to be practical is when desktop icons are hidden. No implemented feature lets you set hotkeys, not even for the provided menu.
A few last words
Taking everything into consideration, we can say that Desktop Tray Launcher is not even close to being practical in a professional environment. Even if you keep desktop icons hidden, the application provides no support for managing displayed items. Furthermore, the lack of hotkey support cuts off ease of access, becoming slightly difficult to use in case your desktop is full.
