Detenc Description
Detenc is a small software application that can help you determine the text file encoding method.
The user interface is really simplistic, and it surely appeals to beginners. No special computer skills are required for getting an idea of how this program works.
The program provides a comprehensive list with encoding methods. Once you have added a file for closer scrutiny, you should select one of the encoding modes provided by the app, and see if it matches to your file.
The application is not able to detect the encoding mode automatically. Each time you want to find out what kind of encoding a file has, you have to manually try each mode until the program is able to display the correct one in the main window.
You can drag and drop the files directly into the main window, or you can add them using the built-in browse button. It doesn’t support batch processing, which means you cannot add multiple files to the list, and determine the text file encoding method for them simultaneously.
The program provides basic editing tools that can help you cut, copy, paste or clear the selected text.
One of its major drawbacks is the fact that it doesn’t provide an automatic encoding detection mode for files. Some users may find it pretty inconvenient to manually try each method till the application is able to find the matching one.
To sum things up, Detenc is a tool that can help you check the text file encoding method. It doesn’t prove to be the most powerful tool on the market, as it lacks many advanced features. However, the application does what it says, and is also light on your system resources.
