Direct Registry Browser Description

Most computer functionality is heavily tied to entries in system registries. However, some applications also add entries of their own, which dictate both visual, and behavioral options. To quickly analyze, and save registry data, Direct Registry Browser comes with an intuitive design to help recover after unexpected events.

Lightweight, and easy to use

It only takes a little while to get the application installed on your computer to see what it’s all about. The familiar design wrapped around a classic window frame resembles much of the functions found in Registry Editor, which is the default tool provided by Windows.
However, the application is far from being equipped with as many features. First of all, the application doesn’t actually read the default registry configuration, so a file needs to be opened and analyzed in this regard. This means other editors need to be used to built that particular file first.

Leaves more to be desired

A files is either opened through a drag and drop operation, or relying on the built-in browse dialog. Content is shown in a twin panel interface, one showing a tree list of all detected keys, while the other offers an in-depth look at registry items inside a selected key. However, absolutely no values can be changed, the application only serving for informative purposes.
Sadly, you’re not able to load common directory files like REG, and are only able to process DAT files, which can’t be exported by the default Windows Registry Editor. On the other hand, the application can export under the REG format to be integrated with the default tool later on, with options to select the exact structure from existing input.

On an ending note

In conclusion, Direct Registry Browser provides an easy navigation system, but only through existing DAT files, not the direct root of system registry entries. What’s more, with no control over registry variables, the application becomes a mere converter from DAT to REG, to make operations easier with files of this type.
