DirFind Description
DirFind is a lightweight and portable software application that can search for files within all directories from a specified drive or folder. It contains a couple of advanced filters that can be easily configured.
Intuitive interface and options
As far as the GUI is concerned, the utility opts for a normal window with a simple design and layout, where you can indicate the drive or directory to search, filter files by name, exclude any filters, define the search expression, as well as ask the tool to ignore the case, list results in multiple lines, and count all matches.
Once the scanner is over, you can view the identified directories in a hierarchical tree, where it's possible to copy the location of a file to the Clipboard via the right-click menu, remove any entry from the results list, as well as refresh information.
No installation required
The entire program's packed in a single .exe file that can be stored on a custom directory on the disk or copied to a removable storage unit, in order to directly run DirFind on any PC with as little effort as possible. It doesn't need libraries or other components to run, create files on the disk, or change system registry settings. Your configuration is remembered on exit.
Evaluation and conclusion
We haven't come across any unpleasant surprises in our tests as far as stability goes, thanks to the fact that the tool didn't freeze, crash or show error messages. Scans were carried out quickly while the app remained light on system resources consumption, since it needed a low amount of CPU and RAM to work properly.
On the other hand, DirFind doesn't make room for file management options, such as copying, moving or deleting files from the hard drive straight from the results list. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself.
