dirscan Description
Even though the command-prompt is not as popular as it used to be, it can still provide you with a few advantages when it comes to speed and versatility. It is, however, rather difficult to navigate the file system using the default CLI utility, since you are not provided with a way to visualize the contents of the folders you are exploring.
Scan directories and view their file list
dirscan, on the other hand, is an application that enables you to easily retrieve a list of all the documents found inside the desired directory, complete with their full name, path and extension. In addition, it also provides you with a wide array of optional parameters that can be used to customize the generated information.
In order to perform a regular scan and view the detected files, all you are required to do is specify the folder you want to target and let the utility take care of the rest. In case you desire slightly more detailed information, you can use one of the available modes, which enable you to ignore directory names and filter certain file extensions.
Output the results into a HTML document
Since there are not too many things you can do with the list inside the command-prompt, dirscan enables you to export it to a separate document and format the contents according to your preferences. Thus, you can output the results into a neatly formatted HTML file, which can then be easily viewed or printed, depending on your necessities.
Furthermore, in case you are not satisfied with the design of the default HTML document, the application allows you to attach your own stylesheet. Hence, the generated list can be customized to include the desired formatting, along with every other option that is achievable through the CSS language.
A simple, but effective directory scanner
Although the command-line interface might confuse inexperienced users a bit, dirscan is a very handy and powerful utility. In addition, the fact that you can customize the output results and stylize the HTML document according to your preferences provides you with everything you might need in order to obtain the desired directory listing.
