Download Commander

Download Commander is a download manager that was developed to put you in control over the downloads you make from the Internet.
The market is already full of this kind of apps, so this isn't probably the first download manager you're trying in case you're a more experienced user.
As a result, the GUI layout isn't surprising at all, with the same multi-panel design created to show download information and details on the files that already landed on your computer.
For each download you can see status, file, progress, speed, threads, size and URL, while the app shows file, path, size and URL for each downloaded item.
Download resuming is supported, but clipboard monitoring is not and this is one of the most important drawbacks. Furthermore, Download Commander was designed work with Internet Explorer exclusively, offering context menu integration to quickly start a new download.
There's no way to get it work with Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome or any other browser, but you can still manually add download links and manage them via the main window of the app.
And speaking of the main window, this isn't resizable, which is quite annoying given the fact that some downloads have long filenames or URLs.
On the good side, Download Commander offers a proxy configuration screen and also supports authentication. It doesn't speed up the downloads too much though, but at least lets you pause and resume tasks at any given moment
All things considered, Download Commander is far from what you may expect from a full-featured download manager and plenty of updates are still needed to become on the top products in this particular category.
