DownMarker is a lightweight software application whose purpose is to help you open, explore and edit markdown files.

Portable running mode

In order to access the program’s GUI, you only need to open the executable file. The lack of an installation process makes it an ideal candidate for being stored on USB flash drives or other portable devices.
What’s more, you can uninstall it by deleting the file that you have grabbed from the Internet, as the tool does not store entries in your Windows registry.

Clean feature lineup

You are welcomed by a user-friendly layout that allows you to create a new document, open an existing one, analyze an example markdown document, and view a list with recently opened files. The tool lets you import/export the information from/to MD and plain text file format, as well as print data.
There’s no support for a help manual so you need to set up the dedicated parameters on your own.

Editing features

DownMarker gives you the possibility to perform several editing tasks, like undo or redo your actions, insert links, and add images with custom descriptions. What’s more, you can work with hotkeys for faster actions and insert quotes, code spans and code blocks.
Tests have shown that DownMarker carries out a task quickly. It doesn’t eat up a lot of CPU and memory, so the overall performance of the computer is not hampered.

Bottom line

All things considered, DownMarker comes packed with basic features for helping you manage markdown documents, and is suitable especially for beginners. On the downside, it does not allow you to work with advanced functions, like syntax highlighting, case conversions, paragraph wrapping options, line splitting, macros, and autocomplete mode, just to name a few suggestions.
