Drive Space Mapper is a practical utility that analyzes disk space to identify and display the largest folders. This way, you can figure out the best course of action to take for file removal, clean up the hard drive to make room for new data, and even restore some of the PC's performance.

Installer, prerequisites, and interface

Setting it up doesn't take long, and the only notable aspect is that the program depends on .NET Framework, so you must have this platform installed.
When it comes to the interface, Drive Space Mapper opts for a large panel with a well-organized layout and support for multiple tabs to easily keep track of different scans. You can check the primary drive to find out the free space in size and percentage.

Scan drives or directories to find large files

Any drive or directory can be verified by the program. It preserves the original folder structure and shows the size of each file and subfolder, in addition to four kinds of representations for the largest objects: tree map, pie chart, top 10, and list view.
It's possible to analyze file properties just like in Windows Explorer, remove files from the disk, and export the list of objects to XML or CSV format for closer inspection. Moreover, you can instruct the tool to sort files by name, size or date of last modification, disable confirmation messages for deletion, as well as modify the default maximum number of items to show.

Evaluation and conclusion

Drive Space Mapper conducted scanning operations in a surprisingly short amount of time in our tests. During this task, it used minimal system resources and didn't interfere with the runtime of other tools we were working with. Unfortunately, it crashed on several occasions while clicking on various parts of the main window, such as the tabs with different results views.
