DupImages Description
DupImages is an application designed to identify duplicate images and create files with the output results. It offers support for BMP, GIF and JPG filetypes. This type of software gives a helping hand for eliminating unnecessary files to free up disk space.
Before proceeding any further, you should know that it acts as a file searcher only, since it doesn't come equipped with settings for removing cloned items.
Setup, prerequisites, and interface
It gets unpacked quickly and effortlessly, since there are no unfamiliar options or third-party components bundled with the setup. However, you must have .NET Framework installed, since it was developed with the aid of this platform.
As far as the interface is concerned, DupImages adopts a standard .NET Framework form with a simple design and layout, where the options are intuitively displayed.
Find and examine duplicate images
All three graphic formats are taken into account by default for the duplicate scanning operation, but any of them can be excluded. The task starts after specifying the directory to look into, along with the location and name of the plain text document used for storing results.
Once the scanner is over, you can find out the number of total found duplicates and current image size, as well as open the tab-delimited TXT file to view the ID, full path, format, size (in kilobytes) and total copies of each clone.
Evaluation and conclusion
It remained stable throughout its runtime in our testing, without hanging, crashing or prompting error messages. CPU and RAM consumption was minimal, so it didn't hamper the computer's performance.
The interface needs graphical improvements, though. We are also keeping mind mind that the product hasn't received updates for a long time. Plus, there are many similar tools out there offering additional features for free. Nevertheless, you can test DupImages for yourself.
