DvbSub2Text is a software application whose purpose is to help you convert bitmap DVB subtitles to text (SRT file format) with the aid of Tesseract, an optical character recognition engine. The tool is able to process the subtitles found in MPEG-TS movies.
It is important to mention from the beginning that the utility is not able to detect the subtitles if their PID value is not listed in the PMT table and PAT/PMT tables are not present at all.

Take advantage of the portable running mode

DvbSub2Text is portable so you can drop it on pen drives to have it with you all the time. In addition, you may open it without administrative privileges on the target computer.
Double-clicking on the executable file is sufficient for accessing the program’s features. Since it does not leave entries in your Windows registry and other configuration items in your PC, you may uninstall it by deleting the files that you have downloaded from the Internet.

Clean layout

DvbSub2Text sports a straightforward layout that reveals a well-structured suite of features. Files can be imported in the working environment using only the built-in browse button (the drag-and-drop support is not implemented).
A help manual cannot be found in the package so you need to experiment a little bit with the dedicated parameters in order to understand how the application works.

Subtitle conversion options

DvbSub2Text gives you the possibility to select the movie that contains the subtitle and lets you check out MPEG-TS details, such as video and audio parameters.
In addition, the program reveals information directly in the main window about the PID value, decoded images, and OCR result. The converted subtitles can be exported to SRT file format and saved to a file on your disk.
What’s more, you are allowed to set the trained language of the Tesseract engine, configure the OCR language, save data to PNG file format, as well as apply grayscale effects.
