dvdCover

dvdCover is a lightweight and portable software application that gives you the possibility to prepare CD or DVD covers for printing. It features automatic scaling and cropping.

Portability advantages

As there is no setup pack involved, you can drop the program files anywhere on the disk and just click the executable to launch dvdCover.
Otherwise, you can save it to a pen drive or other removable storage unit to run it on any computer effortlessly. More importantly, it doesn't modify Windows registry settings.

Simple interface and options

The GUI is user-friendly, represented by a normal window with a plain and simple structure, where you can create a new cover by selecting its format. You can create a custom cover format by specifying a description, width and height, as well as whether you want it in portrait or landscape form.
Images can be imported from local files with the JPEG or BMP extension. dvdCover can be asked to automatically crop and resize the image to fit it to the CD/DVD cover. Apart from the fact that you can edit the file name, there are no other notable options available here.

Evaluation and conclusion

We haven't come across any stability issues in our tests, thanks to the fact that dvdCover didn't hang, crash or show error dialogs. As expected, its impact on the overall performance of the PC was minimal, thanks to the fact that it needed low CPU and memory to work properly.
On the other hand, dvdCover comes packed with limited options and customization preferences. Nevertheless, you can test it for yourself.
