DVDuck

DVDuck is a tool that you can use to play AVI and DVD files in a user-friendly environment.
The program comes with a plain and simple interface in which you can import media from the hard drive or disc, by using the file browser. The "drag and drop" method is not supported.
So, you can use basic media player commands, such as pause and stop, adjust the volume, as well as navigate back and forth within the stream.
But you can also switch to full screen mode, go to the next or previous track, change aspect ratio and select codecs, as well as select chapters, languages and subtitles (in the case of DVDs, obviously).
Furthermore, you have color control when it comes to the brightness, constrast, hue and saturation. Settings can be restored to default at any time.
The application takes up a moderate amount of system CPU and memory Unfortunatelty, we couldn't access the help file (clicking the option did not initialize anything).
Moreover, DVDuck doesn't come with enough features for an eye-catching media player. For instance, you cannot create a playlist or modify program settings (e.g. enable to always be on top of other applications, change audio options). Also, it requires you to separately install codecs in order to fully function.
The bottom line is that DVDuck has all the essential functions of a media player included. But if you are looking for something more advanced, then we suggest a different software.
