Empty Folder Cleaner is an ultra-simplistic piece of software that can be used to remove empty folders from the computer, in order to declutter the hard disk. It does not come equipped with complex features or configuration parameters, so it can be handled by anyone.

The setup procedure does not take a long time to finish. However, users should be careful when going through the wizard steps, as Empty Folder Cleaner offers to download and install third-party components that it does not actually need to work properly. They can be excluded from setup, though.

Intuitive interface and options

The GUI is clean and intuitive. Thanks to the Explorer-based folder structure, you can easily select locations to scan for empty folders, whether they are drives or directories.
Scan results show the empty folder tree, along with the full path for each entry, as well as whether they are empty, protected, junk or normal. Filters can be easily applied here.
Apart from deleting folders, it is possible to exclude them from future scans, explore them via the context menu, as well as to add them to a list of protected directories.

Configure program settings

Empty Folder Cleaner comes packed with numerous configuration options. It is possible to ignore hidden folders and to select the deletion mode between keeping backups, sending them to the Recycle Bin or deleting them permanently. What's more, you can mark files are junk, manage the list of protected folders, and so on.

Evaluation and conclusion

Scans were quickly carried out during our tests, while CPU and RAM consumption was minimal. We have not come across any issues, since the app did not hang, crash or pop up error messages. All in all, Empty Folder Cleaner serves its purpose and comes packed with numerous customization settings to please all types of users.
