Enigma Description
Text messages you work with might need to be secured, and there are various practices to accomplish this. An abundance of encryption algorithms got created and perfected over the years. As such, Enigma comes as a powerful tool with which to put a lock on important strings through rotors and keys.
Includes a couple of encryption algorithms
First thing you notice is there’s no setup involved, so you can just as well deploy it on a thumb drive in case you want to use it on other computers besides your own. Note, however, that Java Runtime Environment is a mandatory requirement for functionality, but it also means that it runs on computers which aren’t fitted with Windows.
The application lets you use a couple of methods to encrypt your text. One of them is steganography, which relies on pictures in which to hide text, while the other uses a custom rotor combination with keys to make the text unreadable. Both algorithms rely on a rotor you can generate and save to file, because it’s also required to decrypt text.
Create keys and rotors for encryption
Generating a rotor requires at least two keys later on, and differ when it comes to text and images. It’s best to save rotors to file, and also remember the keys used in the encryption process, which represent rotor positions and need to be numbers, up to 25 for text, as well as up to 255 for pictures.
There’s no real limit to the number of characters to include as source. Sadly, there’s no possibility to load text from an existing file, so you need to be careful when it comes to character casing as well. Be sure to distribute all required info for proper decryption to the interlocutor.
In conclusion
Taking everything into consideration, we can state that Enigma is a reliable encryption tool which offers a couple of powerful algorithms. Rotors are randomly generated with custom positions, making it close to impossible to decrypt without the required sets of data, thus keeping your texts safe.
