Evan's WMV Screen Capture

Evan's WMV Screen Capture is a lightweight and portable application designed to capture the screen and record it to a video file with the WMV format. It does not include complex features or configuration settings, so it can be handled by all kinds of users, whether they are experienced with video capturing tools or not.

Portability advantages

Since there is no setup kit involved, you can drop the executable file in any part of the hard disk and just click the executable to run.
There is also the possibility to save Evan's WMV Screen Capture to a USB flash disk or similar storage unit, in order to run it on any PC quickly, without previously installing anything.
What's more, the tool does not modify Windows registry settings or create Start menu entries, leaving no traces behind after removing it from the PC.

Classical interface with intuitive options

The program does not stand out in the visual department of the GUI. Instead, it opts for a simple window with a plain look, where you can select the capture source between full screen, rectangular area defined by the mouse cursor, or fixed area of the screen (by specifying coordinates and size).
It is possible to point out the saving directory and file name, pick the maximum capture time (in seconds), as well as to configure output WMV settings when it comes to the resolution (same as the capture source or other) and quality. There are no other noteworthy options available here.

Evaluation and conclusion

The small program runs on low CPU and RAM, so it does not hog system resources. It actually delivers quality videos with smooth animations, although you wouldn't tell this from the interface and few options. No error dialogs were shown in our tests, and the app did not hang or crash. In conclusion, users can resort to this seemingly outdated tool to create some quality footage of desktop activity.
